PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Ronaldo Verian, MOH, MPH(c), BSN, RN, PHN
Class of 1992
13th President of USTNAI

January 19, 2023

A brand New Day to all my beloved and fellow Thomasian Nurses, wherever you are in the world! The famous poet and philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson who believed in the inherent goodness of people and nature stated, “Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”

As I begin my term as your President, I am filled with gratitude for all the good things that we now have and fervently hoping that this will continue for you, for all of us, and for the USTNAI.  While our society is plagued with mistrust, fear, anxiety, and the apparent lack of values, let us continue to see the best in each other, becoming better versions of ourselves and being grateful for what life has to offer.

As members of USTNAI, we have a mission to advance the nursing profession through Advocacy, Service, Education, and Research in the spirit of Unity and Diversity, Spirituality, Trustworthiness, Nursing Excellence, Advocacy, and Innovation.  I do believe that after emerging from the devastating impact of the recent pandemic, we are all ready to Move Forward with Gratitude.  Doing so and with gratefulness, will help move us to be more considerate, more compassionate and humble at heart. How do we do that?

  1. Let the legacy of our beloved Past President, Phil Mangahas, , Class ’71 who recently passed away, guide us with his exemplary leadership and commitment to the USTNAI, other organizations and institutions fortunate enough to benefit from his talent, time and gratitude for his unselfish service.
  2. Follow the lead of our Savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ
What would our success look like?
We increase the number of recurring paying and active members of this USTNAI to more than 50% from the current number.  We must do so urgently and with commitment  Without your support as members, we do not have the mandate to carry out the aspirations and hopes of USTNAI.  It is critical to our success in the future.
How can we be accountable to each other?
By being there when needed, being authentic by watching out and understanding other’s needs. However, always remember that being accountable to each other, is also being grateful for any contributions whether big or small offered by anyone, starting with me and all the way to our newest member.

As the poet laureate Maya Angelou once said.

“Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.”

My call to action to all of you is to Move with Greater Resolve and Enthusiasm while moving Forward with Gratitude.Thank you and God’s Blessings to all!
