growth and positive change”

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the 28th Annual Convention and Leadership Summit at the Marriott Westchase in Houston, Texas!

It is my distinct honor and privilege to serve as your President as we gather once again as colleagues, members of USTNAI, and nurses imbued with the Thomasian spirit. My heart is filled with excitement to see all of you joining us in our traditional Convention events, from the Welcome to the Gala Nights, the highly informative Education Day to the engaging Town Hall meeting with our special guests, the Regent and the Dean of our beloved UST College of Nursing. I am told that this year’s gracious hosts, the UST Nurses Alumni Association of Metro Houston (USTNAAMH), have some special surprises for you.

MOVING FORWARD with GRATITUDE has been the mantra throughout my Presidency, and as I pass the baton to my successor, Dr. Maria Sallie Poepsel of Class 1974 (Golden Jubilarian), my vision of moving this organization toward its true and God-given mission has been realized not only by affirming our true identity first and foremost as a professional but more importantly as a nursing alumni organization. Acknowledging our image and footprint with alums and professional identities makes it possible to clearly determine our path as we MOVE FORWARD to USTNAI 2030.

Therefore, let us continue to work collaboratively to cultivate the USTNAI core values of unity in diversity, spirituality, trustworthiness, nursing excellence, advocacy, and innovation.

The great philosopher Plato once said, “A grateful mind is a great mind which eventually attracts to itself great things.”

With GRATITUDE, we can do more, not just for ourselves but for others, especially for our Thomasian communities worldwide, who may be just starting their career journeys and experiencing enormous life challenges, including those who may have more to give. Through radical generosity, we can collectively do far greater things in our future.

On behalf of USTNAI, join me once again in celebrating with your fellow alums, friends, and colleagues from around the globe. We will once again honor our jubilarians, continue to learn more about the advances in professional nursing while remembering those who have left us with their legacy and engage with our leaders in exploring ways of truly transforming our USTNAI as we enjoy the hospitality, food, and culture of this Great State of Texas.

I am looking forward to seeing you. Please feel free to stop and chat with me at the Convention.

I highly encourage you to visit our website and become familiar with what your USTNAI is all about and what it offers at https://ustnai.org, but first, become a MEMBER OF USTNAI.

God’s Blessings!

Sincerely,

Ronaldo Verian, MPH, MOH, BSN, RN, PHN

Class of 1992
